Atlantic's Natural Paradise

Madeira Island | 4 days

A garden with a mild climate, exotic flowers and fruits, magnificent mountains and valleys, exciting culture and gastronomy and a breathtaking Atlantic coast guaranteed to Madeira Island the distinction of World’s Leading Island Destination 2019. Exuberant nature in a (almost) pure state, in a paradise in the middle of the Atlantic.... There is so much to discover in this unique getaway!
Arrival at Funchal airport and private transfer to the hotel. Free time to rest, enjoy the hotel's facilities and the extraordinary natural landscape. Accommodation.
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for a full day tour. We set out to discover the Arieiro's Peak, one of the highest points in Madeira (1,818 meters high) and the Ribeiro Frio Natural Park, which has the largest surviving area of the primary Laurissilva forest, a type of vegetation with (more or less) 20 million years, and which only exists in the Azores, Madeira and the Canaries, having been classified by UNESCO as Natural Heritage of Humanity. On the way to the village of Machico (where Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira arrived in 1419 to discover the island of Madeira), we will pass by the Portela's Viewpoint, where we can observe the Port of Cruz, Penha d'Águia and part of Santana, with a magnificent landscape of mountains, valleys and sea. Before returning to Funchal we will also enjoy the famous beverage "Poncha da Madeira" and visit Madeira's most easterly point, Ponta de São Lourenço, a natural reserve with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and spectacular rock formations, as well as the only natural black sandy beach of the island; the municipality of Santa Cruz and Camacha, one of the most emblematic parishes of Madeira and known internationally for its folklore (the "Bailinho da Madeira") and the wicker baskets. Return to the hotel and accommodation.
Breakfast followed by a Walking Tour through the historic center of Funchal, to see the Cathedral (Gothic style building from the sixteenth century), the College Church, the Town Hall and other monuments, chapels and churches of the old town. We will also taste the traditional Sword Fish Sandwich and, next to the Church of the Our Lady of the Hill, get ready for an adventure full of adrenaline: a travel down the streets of Monte to the intersection with the Livramento road in the typical Hill Wicker Basket Car. Rest afternoon at leisure. We suggest visiting the Botanical Garden of Madeira, the Farmers Market, the CR7 Museum and do not miss the delicious and authentic Honey Cake of Madeira. In schedule to be defined, a fantastic enogastronomic experience awaits you: the dinner tonight will be at a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Accommodation.
